Hi, I’m Maria!
A photographer originally from Moscow, now based in Jersey City.
I’ve been working in the photo and film industries since 1999. From glossy magazines to film scripts, my journey has evolved into a blend of visual storytelling and social impact.
In 2010, my focus shifted from fashion to narratives that matter. Challenges arose due to my anti-government stance, leading my family to seek refuge in the U.S. in 2020.
In September 2022, I took a stand against the political climate in Russia by capturing antiwar photos. My team, with great courage, printed and posted these across Moscow.
Since March 2023, I've been working on "Our Existence is Resistance," a documentary project capturing the stories and images of diverse indigenous ethnic groups compelled to leave Russia due to the legacy of the Russian Empire. The vision is a photo book, a testament to the resilience of 100-150 lives spanning 300 pages.
I hope my art can bring attention to the importance of each life, no matter who you are and where you come from.
As my journey unfolds, I eagerly embrace upcoming projects delving even deeper into the human experience.
